Venice Film Festival premieres McDonagh's 'Wild Horse Nine' and Herzog's 'Bucking Fastard'

The Venice Film Festival is hosting the world premieres of Martin McDonagh's "Wild Horse Nine" and Werner Herzog's "Bucking Fastard" Thursday evening, with both films competing for the Golden Lion at the 83rd edition. "Wild Horse Nine," a dark CIA comedy starring Sam Rockwell and John Malkovich, follows agents dispatched to Easter Island before the 1973 Chilean coup. McDonagh's previous Venice premieres, "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" and "The Banshees of Inisherin," earned multiple Oscar nominations, with the former winning two. "Bucking Fastard" features Rooney Mara and Kate Mara as codependent twin sisters who speak in unison and share dreams. The jury, led by Maggie Gyllenhaal, announces winners Sept. 12, alongside other contenders like Danny Boyle's "Ink" and the documentary "NAZA."
