UN probe finds foreign support and drones fueling Sudan war crimes

A United Nations fact-finding mission reported Thursday that foreign weapons, technology, fighters, and logistics are sustaining Sudan's civil war, warning that some attacks may constitute war crimes. The conflict has displaced over 14 million people since April 2023. The UN investigators found reasonable grounds that a transnational network involving individuals in the UAE, Chad, Libya, and Somalia supplied the Rapid Support Forces with weapons and training. The report also cited evidence that Colombian contractors operated drones for the RSF, while foreign-supplied drones expanded the army's strike capabilities. Both sides committed serious violations of international humanitarian law, with drone attacks killing over 1,000 civilians between January and May 2026. The mission reiterated calls for enforcing the Darfur arms embargo and urged the UN Security Council to extend it across all of Sudan.
