Ukraine lawmaker proposes talks with Russia, party rejects capitulation
Ukrainian lawmaker Oleksiy Goncharenko from the European Solidarity party proposed negotiating with Russia "about everything in the world," arguing Ukraine is losing the war. His party responded that peace must not mean capitulation. Goncharenko suggested lifting sanctions on Russia in exchange for halting long-range strikes, unblocking the Black Sea, and limiting fighting to the Donbas front. He advocated starting with small agreements, including potential neutrality discussions regarding NATO, before pursuing broader peace. European Solidarity emphasized that peace cannot mean surrendering Ukrainian statehood or identity, urging unity around supporting the Armed Forces and strengthening the state. A September 2026 poll showed 77% of Ukrainians support continued armed resistance even amid potential winter energy attacks.
