Takeda's dengue vaccine Qdenga approved in India, launch set for 2027

Takeda Pharmaceutical's dengue vaccine Qdenga, approved in India, is slated for commercial launch in early 2027, initially via the private market, with plans for government procurement and National Immunisation Programme inclusion. This marks a major expansion of Takeda's public health focus in India. Qdenga, the first dengue vaccine approved in India for ages 4-60, requires no pre-vaccination testing and protects against all four serotypes. India bears nearly one-third of the global dengue burden, with over 121,000 reported cases in 2025, though modelling suggests tens of millions of infections annually. Takeda, which previously focused on oncology, rare diseases, and plasma therapies, will begin state government talks after completing import processes. Two-dose efficacy against hospitalisations is 84.1% over 54 months, with safety shown up to seven years. Pricing remains undisclosed, but affordability is central to strategy.
