Swedish MPs hide AI use in parliamentary motions

Nearly one in ten parliamentary motions in Sweden over the past year were written with help from AI chatbots, according to a new study from Chalmers University of Technology and Edinburgh Napier University. The share of motions showing traces of AI assistance has risen from a few to a tenth over four years, totaling about 300 motions with at least one AI-assisted section. None disclosed AI use, which researchers call a trust issue. Researchers developed custom AI detectors for Swedish and English, finding no major differences between countries or parties. They emphasize transparency, noting voters find the issue relevant and disclosure is part of responsible tool use.
