Suspected avian influenza case found in wild bird in Yamagata

Yamagata Prefecture reported a suspected case of avian influenza in a wild bird. A preliminary test on a dead bird found in Mikawa Town showed a positive result for Type A avian influenza. Further genetic testing is underway to confirm the results. If confirmed, this would be the first avian influenza infection case in the Tohoku region this season. The dead bird was discovered by a resident who then contacted the prefecture. The surrounding area has been designated a key monitoring zone for wild birds.
