Stepmother faces jury trial in Rio de Janeiro for allegedly poisoning stepchildren

A stepmother accused of poisoning her stepchildren with rat poison began her jury trial today in Rio de Janeiro. The defendant, Cintia Mariano Dias Cabral, faces charges for the death of her 22-year-old stepdaughter and attempted murder of her 16-year-old stepson in 2022. The prosecution alleges she used "chumbinho" in their food. This trial was previously postponed when the defense abandoned the courtroom, citing lack of access to evidence. The jury will consist of seven citizens who will decide her guilt or innocence.
