Star Wars gets first Welsh dub with Matthew Rhys as Han Solo

Star Wars is being dubbed into Welsh for the first time, with the classic 1977 film set to air on S4C from Christmas Day ahead of its 50th anniversary next year. The project, announced at the National Eisteddfod, features Matthew Rhys as Han Solo, Rhys Ifans as Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Aimee-Ffion Edwards as Princess Leia. Mark Lewis Jones voices Darth Vader, with Osian Morgan as Luke Skywalker. Lucasfilm and Disney partnered with S4C and Creative Wales on the production. The Welsh government contributed £100,000 to the initiative, which First Minister Rhun ap Iorwerth said aims to attract new Welsh speakers. Lucasfilm co-president Lynwen Brennan, a Welsh native, noted this is the franchise's first Welsh translation, while Wales previously hosted Millennium Falcon construction in 1979.
