Smoking can harm hearing, warns doctor Tufatulin

news.mail.ru (Russian) —

Doctor Tufatulin warned that smoking can lead to hearing deterioration, as reported by TASS on October 4. The otorhinolaryngologist and audiologist stated that this is also contributed to by certain medications and long-term noise exposure. In older age, hearing is affected by natural age-related changes combined with accumulated risk factors, including chronic diseases like high blood pressure and diabetes. Prevention should be comprehensive, involving noise protection, disease control, and rational medication use. The doctor emphasized that hearing loss should not be dismissed as an inevitable part of aging. If speech comprehension worsens, especially in noise, or the TV volume increases, it is a reason to get a hearing check. Modern hearing aids can significantly compensate for hearing loss.
