Shedd Aquarium loses 2 more beluga whales in Chicago

Two more beluga whales have died at Chicago's Shedd Aquarium, including a rescued female and a resident male, despite immediate lifesaving efforts by animal care teams. Officials say it is unknown if the deaths are related. Rain, a 20-year-old female rescued beluga, arrived in mid-August as part of an international rescue effort, while Beethoven, a 34-year-old male, was part of the resident pod. The final group of nine rescued whales arrived Tuesday from a closed Canadian marine park. The aquarium is re-homing 30 belugas from the Canadian park, with others going to Atlanta, San Antonio, San Diego and Spain. A beluga that was moved died last week, and the animals can reach 15 feet and 3,300 pounds.
