Saskatchewan expands coverage for cystic fibrosis drug Alyftrek

Saskatchewan began covering Alyftrek, a cystic fibrosis drug that improves lung function, for eligible patients aged six and older on Aug. 1. The medication targets 266 rare genetic mutations causing CF, a disease damaging lungs and digestion. Health Minister Jeremy Cockrill said coverage prioritizes patients, as Alyftrek controls symptoms and slows disease progression, though no cure exists. Coverage follows a July 2025 Health Canada recommendation and July 2026 pricing negotiations. Saskatchewan already funds similar drugs, and Alyftrek makes over 95 percent of eligible patients candidates. Nearly 150 CF patients live in the province.
