Russia to Update Blood Transfusion Preparation Rules from 2027
Russia's Health Ministry will introduce a new procedure for medical examination and preparation of patients for donor blood transfusion starting January 1, 2027, according to a ministry document reviewed by RIA Novosti. The new order establishes rules for initial and confirmatory blood group and Rh factor testing from a single sample, with repeat testing required if results differ. Recipient blood samples for compatibility tests must be taken no earlier than 48 hours before transfusion and labeled with patient details, while transport requires specific temperature conditions. The document also adds hypotension to the list of symptoms requiring immediate cessation of biological testing, and limits blood sample volume to three milliliters for recipients weighing under 30 kilograms. The rules will remain in effect until September 1, 2032, aiming to ensure transfusion safety and effectiveness.
