Russia claims control of Shevchenko near Pokrovsk in eastern Ukraine
Russia's defense ministry announced the capture of Shevchenko, a settlement near Pokrovsk, a strategic target in eastern Ukraine. This marks a new development in Russia's ongoing military campaign in the Donetsk region. Ukraine's military did not confirm the loss of Shevchenko but reported over 50 Russian attacks near Pokrovsk in the last day. Ukrainian forces claimed to have repelled most of these assaults. The situation in the Donetsk region has seen increased Russian advances, with reports of significant progress since the invasion began in February 2022. Russia also claimed to have captured Kurakhove, another logistics center, earlier this week.
