Romania's financial authority head discusses mandatory electric scooter insurance

The head of Romania's Financial Supervisory Authority (ASF) stated that mandatory civil liability insurance for electric scooter users is a legitimate and necessary discussion. This aligns with an EU directive requiring Romania to transpose rules extending RCA insurance to light vehicles like electric scooters meeting specific speed and weight criteria. A draft law is already under consideration. The ASF emphasizes protecting accident victims and promoting road safety education, noting that current European systems link RCA to the vehicle, not the individual's national ID number.
