Romania Selects Cannes Winner 'Fjord' for Oscar International Feature Race

Romania has selected Cristian Mungiu's "Fjord," starring Renate Reinsve and Sebastian Stan, as its official entry for the Best International Feature category at the 99th Academy Awards. The film won the Palme d'Or at Cannes. The drama follows two fundamentalist Romanian parents who relocate to a Norwegian village and face accusations of child abuse, forcing them to defend their beliefs in court. The film is in Romanian, Norwegian, and English, with Neon handling its domestic release. Mungiu previously won the Palme d'Or in 2007 for "4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days," which was not submitted for Oscars. His 2012 film "Beyond the Hills" made the shortlist, but no Romanian film has ever won an Oscar.
