A 74-year-old retired Air Force staffer in Bengaluru lost ₹6.2 lakh to cyber fraudsters posing as bank officials. The scammers convinced him to install a customer support app, allowing them to access his and his wife's accounts. The incident occurred on January 6, when the victim received a call and WhatsApp message from someone claiming to be a bank manager. After following the instructions, the fraudsters were able to withdraw money from both accounts. In response, local police have registered a case and launched an awareness campaign. They advise the public to avoid unknown calls and not to install suspicious apps that could compromise personal information.
