Researchers unveil early version of human body cell map

Researchers have released an early version of a map detailing some human body cells. This project, part of the Human Cell Atlas initiative started in 2016, aims to enhance understanding of health and diseases, including cancer. The current map includes various cell types and their relationships. A more comprehensive atlas is expected in 2026, covering cells from 18 organs and systems, such as the skin and heart. Recent findings on bone development in embryos were published in Nature. Additional atlases are being developed to explore specific areas, like the brain and gut microbiome. These efforts aim to provide insights into the structure and function of cells, contributing to advancements in health research.
