Philippines pushes ASEAN action on big tech accountability

The Philippine government will push for greater accountability from big tech companies at the ASEAN level, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) announced Thursday. DICT Secretary Henry Aguda said the initiative builds on recent engagements with Meta and Roblox in Singapore, which demonstrated the benefits of government-platform cooperation. Meta committed to addressing harmful content and cybercrime, while Roblox agreed to strengthen child safety measures. Aguda plans to raise the issue at an ASEAN ministerial meeting in October, citing calls from Scam Watch Pilipinas for regional action against online scams and digital threats. He noted ASEAN represents nearly 700 million people.
