Officials warn Rügen's Jasmund cliff remains unpredictable after massive landslide

A massive landslide at Jasmund National Park on Rügen sent about 4,500 cubic meters of sediment into the Baltic Sea, prompting officials to warn that the cliff remains dangerously unpredictable. The 45-meter-wide slide consisted of glacial till and sand, forming a debris cone reaching up to ten meters into the sea. Experts say water accumulating atop clay layers can trigger further collapses at any time. Unlike previous major slides, the chalk layer was not involved. Visitors are urged to stay on marked high-shore paths, both for their safety and to protect the fragile natural landscape.
