New York nurse sues Mount Sinai after needle left in abdomen during C-section

nypost.com —

A New York nurse is suing Mount Sinai Hospital and three doctors, alleging a 3.8 cm needle was left inside her abdomen during surgery, causing seven years of pain before its discovery. Jana Petriganova DeGregoris and her husband filed the lawsuit on Sept. 24 in Manhattan Supreme Court. DeGregoris, a nurse at Mount Sinai, underwent a C-section with wound closure in June 2018 and a tummy tuck with hernia repair in November 2021. The suit claims the needle was negligently left behind during one of these operations, and a CT scan on Oct. 14, 2025, finally revealed it, requiring another surgery to remove it. The couple seeks unspecified damages for severe physical pain and injuries. The named doctors and hospital have not commented, and the couple's attorney declined to comment. DeGregoris has worked as a cardiothoracic nurse practitioner at Mount Sinai since 2013.
