New brain network offers target for Parkinson's disease treatment

A newly identified brain network linking cognition and action may be a key target for improving Parkinson's disease treatment. This network, called the somato-cognitive action network (SCAN), shows increased connectivity in Parkinson's patients. Targeting SCAN could potentially double the efficacy of some existing treatments. The study analyzed data from 863 Parkinson's patients, finding SCAN hyperconnectivity is specific to the disease and reduced by treatments.
