Neurodivergent students face barriers in Canadian post-secondary education, report finds
Neurodivergent students are underrepresented in Canadian post-secondary education, with less than half disclosing their identity or diagnosis. Many face barriers in the disclosure process, including stigma and lack of information, which affects their access to necessary support. Students who disclose their neurodivergent status report higher satisfaction with their institutions. However, graduation rates for neurodivergent students remain lower than their peers, largely due to challenges with executive functioning and discrimination. To improve support, experts suggest integrating student services and providing neurodiversity training for staff. These measures aim to create a more inclusive environment for neurodivergent students in higher education.
