Natalia Silva beats China's Wang Cong, wins Brazil's first UFC women's flyweight title

uol.com.br (Portuguese) —

Brazilian fighter Natalia Silva defeated China's Wang Cong by unanimous decision on Saturday at UFC 332 in Salt Lake City, becoming the first Brazilian champion in the UFC women's flyweight division. The 29-year-old from Minas Gerais claimed the vacant title in the main event. Silva controlled the fight with effective striking and grappling, securing key takedowns and landing combinations throughout the five rounds. Wang pressed forward in the later rounds, but Silva managed the distance and clinch work to secure the historic victory. The title was left vacant after former champion Valentina Shevchenko withdrew due to injury. Shevchenko is expected to receive a rematch against Silva once recovered. Three previous Brazilian challengers had failed to win the flyweight belt.
