Mother and daughter die in Urapakkam scooter-school bus crash

A mother and daughter died in a road accident in Keerapakkam near Urapakkam, Tamil Nadu, when their scooter was hit by a private school bus while overtaking a government bus. The victims were identified as Devi, 45, and her daughter Swathi, 23, who were riding a scooter from Keerapakkam to Urapakkam. Swathi was driving when she attempted to overtake a government bus on the Karanai Puducherry-Arungal road, and a school bus coming from the opposite direction collided with them. Both died on the spot or on the way to the hospital. Tambaram traffic police have registered a case and sent the bodies for post-mortem. Local residents say bus drivers often do not give way to smaller vehicles, and riders fail to watch for oncoming traffic, leading to such fatal accidents.
