Migrant workers seek court protection after Katani Kalan village orders eviction

Migrant workers have filed a plea in the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking protection after a village panchayat ordered them to vacate their homes. The Katani Kalan village panchayat passed resolutions directing migrant laborers and tenants to leave rented accommodations by October 15 and prohibiting shops from being rented to non-locals. The High Court has issued a notice to the Punjab government. The plea argues the panchayat's resolutions are unlawful and discriminatory, violating fundamental rights. Over 100 migrant workers have already fled the village due to anxiety following the resolutions.
