Microsoft Paint runs Doom at 35 fps in new project
Doom has been successfully run inside Microsoft Paint, achieving up to 35 frames per second, according to a Tom's Hardware report. The project, called DoomPaint, uses the original shareware version of the game with Paint serving as the display. The initiative was led by Mark Russinovich, CTO of Microsoft Azure, who explained that each frame is copied to the Windows clipboard and pasted into Paint's canvas as a document edit. The GitHub repository includes resources and instructions for users to replicate the setup. The release includes sound and music, and the performance is considered respectable for 1990s PC gaming standards. This project highlights a creative use of Paint's basic editing functions to render real-time gameplay.
