Kano Emirs Sanusi and Bayero face arrest over durbar ban violations

guardian.ng —

Security forces in Kano State have threatened to arrest the 15th and 16th Emirs, Muhammadu Sanusi II and Aminu Ado Bayero, for any action that could breach peace, following an emergency security meeting on Friday. The joint forces vowed to prosecute anyone violating the government's ban on horse riding and durbar activities, with Police Commissioner Ibrahim Adamu Bakori stating the executive order applies to all persons regardless of status. The warning follows a royal procession by Bayero that allegedly destroyed public property, and a separate procession by Sanusi on Thursday. Authorities now require 72 hours' written notice for any planned durbar or animal-riding activity, allowing security assessments to ensure public safety. Five people were arrested in connection with the earlier procession incident.
