Israeli prosecutors charge settler with killing activist Awdah Hathaleen in West Bank
Israeli prosecutors Thursday charged a settler with reckless manslaughter for the July 2025 killing of Palestinian activist Awdah Hathaleen in the occupied West Bank, marking a rare prosecution. Settler Yinon Levi also faces armed trespassing and malicious property damage charges. Rights group B'Tselem says this is the first indictment of an Israeli for a Palestinian death in the territory since October 7, 2023. Video footage allegedly shows Levi firing at crowds. Hathaleen, a teacher and father of three, was involved in Oscar-winning 'No Other Land' and advocated against settler violence. Levi, previously sanctioned by Western nations, had his lawyer call the prosecution a 'mistaken decision.'
