mathrubhumi.com (Malayalam)

India has developed a new heavy-weight torpedo, named 'Takshak', capable of hunting submarines at depths of up to 800 meters. This advanced torpedo, developed by DRDO, is designed to counter Chinese Type 093 Shang-class nuclear attack submarines, which can operate at depths of 700 meters. Takshak is an upgraded version of India's Varunastra torpedo. Takshak has a range of 40 nautical miles, can travel at 40 knots, and features advanced sonar and electronic countermeasures. It is expected to be tested in 2027 or 2028 and deployed on India's Type 75I submarines.
