Ignacio Buse wins first US Open match, 66 years after his grandfather

Peruvian Ignacio Buse earned his first U.S. Open victory on Wednesday, following in the footsteps of his grandfather Eduardo, who last won a match at the tournament in 1958. The 22-year-old defeated American Marcos Giron in a five-set match. The 32nd seed won 3-6 6-3 6-3 6-7(6) 6-1 after three hours and 48 minutes on Court Six, finishing with a backhand volley. Buse said he stayed calm in the fifth set, calling it a special moment. Ignacio never met his grandfather Eduardo, whose exploits with twin brother Enrique are commemorated at Lima's Estadio Hermanos Buse. Eduardo won his last U.S. Open match in 1958, when the tournament was held on grass at Forest Hills. Buse next faces Benjamin Bonzi.
