Halifax water utility reports blown fuses caused boil water advisory for 200,000 residents
Halifax Water has released a preliminary report explaining last month's boil water advisory affecting over 200,000 people. A power outage on January 20 caused blown fuses at the Pockwock plant, disrupting the chlorine disinfection process. The backup chlorination system became airlocked, allowing unchlorinated water to be pumped for 66 minutes. The boil water advisory was lifted on January 23. A final report on the incident is expected on March 21. This incident follows a similar advisory in July due to partially chlorinated water released from the plant after electrical issues and a generator failure.
