Greek Stocks' New Vanguard: Dual Listings and Extra Privileges
The Greek stock market is preparing for its official return to Developed Markets status on September 21, with a rebalancing scheduled for the evening of September 18. Investor attention is now focused on which Greek stocks will be included in the main FTSE Russell and Stoxx indices. Thirteen Greek companies will be placed in the key developed market indices, including the four systemic banks (National Bank, Eurobank, Piraeus, Alpha Bank) and nine non-financial firms. Six stocks will trade on both the FTSE Russell Mid Cap and Stoxx 600 Europe indices, while others will appear on only one. Ten of the thirteen stocks will also remain in the MSCI Standard Greece emerging market index until May 2027, providing them with additional visibility. Index providers can adjust the composition periodically, meaning the current lineup is not permanent.
