A new report reveals it's becoming harder to determine if conflict deaths are civilian or combatant, with "unknown identity" cases rising. Last year, 50% of deaths in the Gaza conflict were classified as "unknown," while only 2% were identified as combatants. The report also notes a rise in global conflicts, with 61 active in 2024, the highest since 1946. The report highlights a concerning trend of increased violence against civilians, up 31% in 2024, and a fivefold increase in total conflict deaths since 2010, alongside rising interstate tensions.
