French police investigate family shooting deaths in northeastern France

Four members of a family were fatally shot Wednesday in northeastern France, with initial reports indicating the father killed them before taking his own life, according to French media. The incident occurred around 8 p.m. local time in a caravan and mobile home area in Gy, Haute-Saône, between Dijon and Besançon. Gendarmes found the bodies of a man, a woman he was divorcing, and their children aged six and nine. The man allegedly used a rifle. The Vesoul prosecutor and Gy's mayor attended the scene. Authorities have opened a voluntary homicide investigation to clarify the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
