French campsite's naturist plan sparks standoff in Aude

A municipal campsite in Fleury, southern France, may become fully naturist by 2028, sparking a major conflict between the mayor and long-term residents who oppose the plan. Mayor André-Luc Montagnier says the Rive d'Aude campsite's attendance is falling and aims to attract high-spending German and Dutch tourists, a clientele lost since a nearby naturist site closed in 2016. Residents, who learned of the plan accidentally, have launched a petition and accuse the mayor of harassment. Campers, some with 40-year ties, say they face pressure through fines and rule enforcement, and feel betrayed by the lack of consultation. The campsite's operating council will decide its future in September.
