Denmark sends conscripts to Greenland after Trump threats

Denmark has begun deploying conscripts to Greenland as part of a new program to boost Arctic defenses, following repeated threats by US President Donald Trump to acquire the territory. Denmark and Greenland have firmly rejected the US demands. The conscripts are the first cohort under Denmark's extended conscription program, training for combat and survival in extreme cold-weather conditions. The effort follows Denmark's pledge of billions of dollars to strengthen Arctic defenses after its defense minister acknowledged years of underinvestment in the region. The training is part of Arctic Sentry, a NATO mission launched this year to strengthen the alliance's Arctic presence. Russia, which maintains the Arctic's largest military footprint, has criticized NATO's growing activity, while China has increased its presence in the mineral-rich region.
