Darius Boyd named Queensland Maroons coach for next two years

Darius Boyd has been appointed coach of the Queensland Maroons for the next two years, replacing Billy Slater, who stepped down last month. The announcement was made Thursday, with Boyd expressing he had "goosebumps" upon receiving the role. Boyd, a former Maroons player with 28 Origin appearances, was chosen after candidates including Cameron Smith, Ben Te'o, and Kevin Walters declined the position. He previously coached Queensland's Under 19 team, guiding them to consecutive wins, and is expected to be mentored by legendary coach Wayne Bennett. The 39-year-old, who was raised by his late grandmother Delphine, emphasized the role's responsibility and his commitment to building on Queensland's legacy. QRL Chair Brian Canavan praised Boyd's playing achievements and his development as a coach and leader within the state's pathways system.
