Dangote Refinery IPO: When investors can expect returns
Investors in the Dangote Refinery IPO are questioning when they will see returns, as the offer price of N525 per share does not guarantee future gains or dividend payments. The IPO, which opened September 14, 2026, and closes October 13, offers 4.1 billion shares to raise about N2.15tn. The refinery reported $13bn in revenue and $1.82bn net profit in the first half of 2026, a turnaround from a $476m loss in 2025. However, dividends are not guaranteed and depend on company performance, cash needs, and board decisions, with profits potentially retained for expansion plans to double capacity by 2029. Analysts suggest dividends could arrive within six months to two years, but returns may also come from share price appreciation after listing. Risks include refining margins, crude prices, forex conditions, and operational disruptions, with no assurance shares will trade above the offer price.
