Colombia's president announces inspection of University of Córdoba
President Abelardo De La Espriella announced government inspection and oversight actions against the rector of the University of Córdoba during a visit to Montería, citing administrative irregularities and judicial rulings against the rector's electoral rules. The president criticized modifications to the university's General Statute and rectory period rules, noting a judge nullified Agreement 064 of 2026 because the rector could not set rules for his own election. He requested the Education Ministry conduct an inspection visit on Monday and asked the Procurator General and Fiscal General to prioritize disciplinary and criminal cases against the rector. De La Espriella made the announcement while inaugurating a baseball stadium, also confirming 380 billion pesos for cold front emergency aid and 30 billion pesos for a new Hospital Camilo Torres facility. He directly told the rector he does not deserve the position, asserting the university belongs to Córdoba society, not political groups.
