Club Med South Africa worker granted bail in teen rape case
A French boutique manager at Club Med South Africa was granted R5,000 bail on Tuesday after being accused of raping an 18-year-old Canadian guest at the resort on July 23. The alleged assault occurred shortly before the victim and his family were due to return home. The 35-year-old allegedly invited the teen to his staff apartment after drinking at the hotel bar, where the state says the complainant became incapacitated. He allegedly fondled the victim and performed oral sex on him. The complainant has been deemed unfit to testify at this stage. The KwaDukuza Magistrate's Court imposed strict conditions, including surrendering his passport, reporting weekly to Umhlali Police Station, and residing at a Salt Rock guest house. The case was postponed to October 5, 2026.
