Cillian Murphy and Yvonne McGuinness get planning approval for Dingle cinema redevelopment

Planning approval has been granted for Cillian Murphy and Yvonne McGuinness's redevelopment of the Phoenix Cinema in Dingle, following delays caused by third-party appeals from local residents earlier this year. The plans will retain the building as a cinema while adding a multi-disciplinary performance space, exhibition and rehearsal areas, a bar, café, restaurant, artist studios, and a redesigned courtyard. The couple announced the news today, saying Dingle has "waited decades for an arts centre" and that the Phoenix will provide space for community and creativity. The couple also submitted a Rural Regeneration Development Fund application with Kerry County Council as lead partner. The Phoenix, destroyed by fire in 1921 and 1938, served the west Kerry community for over 100 years before closing during the pandemic, hosting performers including Rory Gallagher and Dana.
