Cancer rates rise alarmingly in younger Australians
Alarming rates of cancer are rising in Australians under 50, with scientists urgently investigating the causes behind this concerning trend. Early onset cancer rates have increased significantly for at least ten different types of cancer, including prostate, pancreatic, and bowel cancer. Researchers are exploring potential factors like environmental toxins, childhood obesity, and changes in gut bacteria as possible contributors to the rise. Studies show a dramatic increase in bowel cancer among young Australians, with a 173% increase since 2000. The Human Exposome Project is studying environmental and lifestyle factors that may influence cancer development. The ORIGINS project is also tracking the health of children to understand the impact of early-life exposures.
