Berrettini out of US Open, Alcaraz advances to third round

Italian tennis player Matteo Berrettini was eliminated in the second round of the US Open by Argentina's Mariano Navone. Berrettini won the first set 6-3 but lost the next three sets. Navone took the second set 6-3, the third 6-4, and the fourth in a tiebreak 7-6(4). Berrettini criticized his own attitude, saying he struggled to adapt to humid conditions. Other Italians Francesco Passaro and Andrea Guerrieri were eliminated in the first round. Carlos Alcaraz advanced to the third round, defeating his opponent in four sets after losing the first. The Spaniard is recovering form following a wrist injury.
