Berkshire Hathaway is considering increasing its stakes in Japan's five largest trading houses, CEO Greg Abel told the Nikkei on Thursday. The company first invested in Mitsubishi, Itochu, Mitsui, Sumitomo, and Marubeni in 2019 under Warren Buffett, raising stakes to between 9% and 11% last year. Abel expressed confidence in their growth prospects, and shares of the firms surged nearly 5% on Thursday. Berkshire held $35.37 billion in the five companies at the end of 2025, receiving $862 million in dividends. Mitsubishi was the largest position at 10.8%, valued at $9.21 billion.
