Andhra Pradesh's ban hurts Karnataka mango farmers
Karnataka mango farmers face a crisis as Andhra Pradesh's ban on mango imports threatens their market access and livelihoods. The ban, imposed by Chittoor district, aims to protect local growers from plummeting prices due to a bumper crop, but it blocks Karnataka farmers from crucial processing units. Karnataka's Chief Secretary has appealed to Andhra Pradesh to revoke the ban, citing potential losses and interstate trade disruption. The Kolar Mango Growers Association is protesting the situation, with a bandh planned, while Andhra Pradesh monitors the situation. Around 300,000 tonnes of Totapuri mangoes are typically sent annually from Karnataka to processing units.
