Advocates want Australia to fund MND data registry
Advocates are urging the Australian government to fund a $12 million data registry to combat Motor Neurone Disease (MND). This registry aims to understand the disease's prevalence and provide targeted support. MND, a debilitating neurological disease, currently claims two lives daily in Australia, with two new diagnoses each day. The disease progressively impairs nerve cells, leading to loss of mobility, speech, and eventually, breathing. With no cure and limited treatments, the registry seeks to improve understanding and potentially accelerate research. The disease affects an estimated 2,700 Australians, with an average life expectancy of two to three years after diagnosis.
