10-Year-Old California Surf Rescue Victim Has No Memory of Ordeal

A 10-year-old boy rescued by a teen lifeguard from rough California surf says he remembers nothing after a giant wave swept him off his feet in ankle-deep water. The dramatic rescue was captured on video. Sixteen-year-old lifeguard Ryder Williams clung to Nathaniel Rai as waves crashed over them at Seabright Beach in Santa Cruz on July 25. Nathaniel lost consciousness and went limp, and a second lifeguard helped bring them both to shore. Nathaniel, recovering in Dallas, had a sore back and breathing trouble for a few days but is otherwise well. The rescue video gained worldwide attention, including from President Donald Trump, and Nathaniel's father said the boy was seconds from death.
